New beginnings

New Beginnings

Wow. Four years go by faster than you’d expect.

I started this site back in good ole’ March of 2022, and I appear to have been able to update it for roughly 3 months. Let’s see if this stint can be carried any longer.

This is unfortunately going to be another one of those nonsense posts that outline “oh how could I ever discontinue my blog, and will I ever surpass my old PB and what’s even the point of this text…”. I guess it goes to show that I’m a sucker for, and have really been longing for a space to write! Sure, there’s the occasional linkedin post but it only accepts so many characters, and has to be succinct and witty and carry some sort of idea. Here I can finally just go rambling and relax as if I’m constantly in a hammock. (As if. It’s past midnight and I should really be getting some shuteye before the alarm rings). But I’m just so excited!

The journey that ended

Way back when I started this I built a gatsby site (as if I know anything about it…) and got some posts up and running. But I quickly outgrew my theme and the default styling was wearing on me. I just wanted simple .mdx-files and one or two slugs that contain a teeny bit of additional information. So every time I wanted to write a new post I realized I wanted a new look and feel, which led me down the rabbit hole of blog site themes… Don’t you ever go there!

I think I attempted at least three swaps before I gave up. Spending 4 hours on reformatting markdown frontmatter (and maybe some config files too..) only to realize that this still wasn’t quite what I was looking for, or that this theme had so much boilerplate I would never be able to see the forest for the trees. I was done. There would never be a time when I could finally figure out exactly the look I wanted, and have the patience to either notoriously copy the css from something minified myself, or actually bite the bullet, dress up in Alice in Wonderland dresses and dive through the looking glass of setting up a new platform/nextjs blog implementation/god-knows-what.

…Until now! As I was listening to a recent episode of Hard Fork with a section on how Kevin and Casey had been tinkering with Claude Code over the holidays, while also commenting on the fact that A LOT OF developers are actually seeing a substantial leap since the model races of November 2025, I realized that this is it. This is the moment when I too can be happy building projects, little blogs and websites. Because the LLMs are now so good at coding what we want that the sheer joy of “ask and you shall receive” is upon us already! Or as my good friend always says: “The Future is here today”.

Wrapping up this useless rambling

Et voilà! Here I sit. With a freshly baked markdown file turned into a blog post, that will go out on my Google cloud run instance using a minified website bundle that a golang executable generated in roughly 540ms (and I think most of that time is my fault with that tailwind shenanigan). Finally! It only took four years. And to think I considered taking time of work to just be able to finally push this thing out the door (and maybe one or two other projects). I can finally start building, thinking and writing again!

So. For something worth mentioning. I look forward to mentioning:

  • My food list project that pushed me into maybe daring to finalize this too.
  • My Growth Garden
  • My worklog workflow
  • Creation - my productivity suite
  • The setup I’ll be employing to get this stuff out the door.
  • Whether there will ever be a point in being able to deploy new posts just from my phone.
  • Maybe one or two consumption thingies (you know, podcasts, books, shows).

Man, this breath of cyber air feels good.

This time around I’m using:
